ABOUT

Rachel Mondshine

Rachel Mondshine is an American multimedia artist. She lives and works in New York City, NY. She graduated with a BA in Studio Art and Psychology from Wesleyan University in 2021.

Through layered drawing, painting, and collage, Rachel creates works that are visually rhythmic, appealing to patterns, vivid colors, and graphic qualities. Her practice is multidisciplinary and variable: from multimedia faux mirrors created with fur and candy  (All Day Suckers) to a book entirely dedicated to her beloved pet rat Sylas (Rat Book), Rachel seeks to tell stories and create worlds that encourage visceral associations through play and material wonder.

In tune with her childhood adoration for adornment and experimentation, Rachel combines her affinity for play with more traditional fine art and graphic art elements to encourage a return to material exploration and revelry. Through her work, she explores recurring themes such as nostalgia, identity, “pop feminism”, play, and the tension between our physical realities and the surreal mind.
